On Sunday 7th May we had a great Bring & Share Lunch (if you weren’t there you missed a wonderful event in the life of the church!). We tried different flavour dishes from all over the world: Korea, African nations, as well as some British favourites. For pudding we had trifles, cheesecakes, cakes, and apple crumble. We spent time catching up with each other: all-ages, and cultures together. It included people who have been here for a long time and some just a few months. Everyone is welcome.
Afterwards we spent time discussing and thinking about what we think God might be saying to us as a church, especially our vision to be a Beacon of Light in the community. Thank you to everyone who responded and volunteered to be part of it. Everyone’s contributions and insights were greatly appreciated. Thank you also to those who warmed the food up and washed up afterwards as well!
I was really encouraged by it. For me this is an important part of church family being together. As we shared food together we celebrated our differences. Food really is the great leveller. Sharing a meal together creates an environment where we can talk to each other in an open way and it really is biblical just looking at the many times Jesus shared a meal with others. So, I can encourage you to watch out for the date of the next bring and share lunch, to put in your diary and try and make it a priority, because I think it really is an important part of being church family.
In the meantime, please keep talking to the deacons, Charis or myself about what you think being a beacon of light means for us as a church community here in Worcester Park. Above all please pray that God would put His light and love in our hearts so that we might overflow with His love and goodness in our personal as well as corporate life.
